The film is based on the masterful novel by Ayn Rand. āThe Fountainheadā of 1943. It is based on the figure of the famous Chicago architect Frank Lloyd Wright and brilliantly adapted to the cinema by Director King Vidor, the writer herself was commissioned to write the script for the film.
The history of man, of the one who creates his own destiny according to his thoughts, his ideas, without paying attention or stopping at what others think or think of him or his work. It will be his own convictions that will create reality, these will be the basis that will forge a man of integrity, honest and self-confident, Howard Roark played by Gary Cooper, is outlined as the incorruptible and idealistic man, unattainable against most of human beings, servile and manageable without their own criteria. He unfolds the super person that we all carry inside but that not all of us risk or allow ourselves to develop for fear of not fitting into the patterns set by the community. A heroic being, of great strength and independence, superior to the rest, because he is willing to risk everything for the realization of his ideals, his artistic creation is grandiose, differently innovative that does not respect the great classics of architecture and will go against of what people want, but the young architect will seek his personal fulfillment, develop his intellect, his reason, his soul and forge his destiny.
On his way he will meet characters who perceive and know how to appreciate and recognize when they find themselves before genuine, original and true works that emanate from the imagination of the human being who exercises that power to create something beautiful. Among them Gail Wynand, magnificently played by Raymond Massey, a millionaire, a self-made man, but with a different scale of values, but who admired that man he had dreamed of becoming, and a woman, Dominique Francon, played by Patricia Neal , which will complete the love trio of characters, a frustrated, dissatisfied and tormented woman who tries to find beauty and honesty in this world.
The power that each man has is not found in material goods, the true power is the one that is inside each one and that he will find when he knows where he is going, having a destiny, a clear objective, a motive, a reason for living and fighting is fundamental in order not to be swept away by the masses and by the current of the community. That is where the spring of universal wisdom emanates, where the human mind touches the power of creation and great works arise in the case of this film architectural works, perhaps these are some of the most beautiful works of creation of the human being .
