Endearing and magnificent film, in which I would highlight as a point of attention the almost generalized lack of communication that often exists between parents and children, in the case of this film due to the hectic and busy life of the father, Frank Burton Cheyne (Melvyn Douglas ) an important and rich businessman, who also has the double role of acting as father and mother, since his wife has died and he showers his son Harvey Cheyne (Freddie Bartholomew) with whims and money, trying to supply his lack of attention and dedication.
I would say that it is not necessary that they are busy businessmen, but unfortunately, it is a general evil in almost all types of social status. There should be no other task more important than being and spending time with our children, since there is no greater reward than enjoying their love, affection and trust. That makes the human being separate from that natural instinct to care for and enjoy the company of their loved one, the maelstrom in which we find ourselves involved, that hamster wheel from which we cannot get out and that does not let us see beyond what we have in front of our own noses, if we could see further, perhaps we would see that more than material goods and wealth, what any child longs for is that they dedicate time to him, listen to him, tell him fantastic stories, give him answers to the thousand and one questions that go through his head, praise his triumphs and support him in his attempts and failures, make him feel valuable and loved and in this way he will grow strong, brave and be able to give everything he received, love.
